SANTOS:

THE CITY THAT PRIDES ITSELF ON OCEAN LITERACY

Ocean Literacy Dialogues will take place from October 10 to 14, 2022 in Santos (SP), and already has participants from more than 25 countries in the world. In this time of year, we expect mild temperatures, after the summer season, and beautiful sunsets.

Santos is a pioneer city for Ocean Literacy, with the Observatory of the interface between science and public policies for Sustainable Development and the Ocean Literacy Law, recognized by UNESCO as the first world law on the subject, what inspires other cities and states from Brazil and from all the world.

Santos stands out as 5th in the quality of life ranking of Brazilian municipalities, according to the Human Development Index (HDI) measured by the United Nations (UN) based on levels of life expectancy, education and GDP per capita. The city is very connected to Ocean Literacy, including the awareness of society by the journalistic sector, the growth of the Blue Economy, including the Port of Santos and all tourism, services and fishing activities. In addition, the city inspires with its historic center and 7 km of beach, accompanied by the largest waterfront garden in the world – a title awarded by the Guinness World Records.

Besides being welcoming and providing an ocean-related experience, Santos is about 72 km far from the capital and easily accessible from the main airports in São Paulo.
